Rope Adventure!

Confessor's Travels: #1 Rope and Suspension

I am very happy to say that I attended my very first 'play party'/demo/class this weekend. This post is going to be written in a story type of format.

I suppose I shall insert appropriate reading courtesies :P so it is not one giant BLOB.

_______________________________________________________

I left my apartment 45 minutes before the starting time of the event. I wanted to be sure I had enough time to not only get through all the city traffic but find the actual location of the place and arrive safely. I doubled checked my meager bag. I had packed a notebook and a pencil. I filled up my water bottle and packed an extra bra just in case certain clothing would work better. I had decided to wear sweatpants, a sports bra and a fun T-shirt.

I already felt myself getting antsy and fidgety even as I waited for the elevator. Alas I kept moving forward. One step at a time is all I could tell myself. I was confident and sure of myself...right? I climbed into my car, jacked the music and let all the windows down. The breeze whipping on my face was a comfortable sensation to me that I utilize frequently when I get nervous.

Traffic was horrendous as usual on a Friday night. However, once I was past the city gates it was smooth sailing on the highway. I turned the GPS on once I entered unfamiliar territory. I apparently reached the destination on my left but was not sure if I was in the correct location. I pulled into a parking lot where supposedly the destination was supposed to be at. After a phone call with my contact, I had confirmed that I was at the right location. I parked my car, took a big deep breathe, and opened the door.

For a split second I got nervous and thought about turning around and forgetting everything. I had so many fears and worries. Some were valid, while others were silly and childish. I was greeted by a very nice man who told me enter. I was the first to arrive. I walked into the back room where the class and play time would occur.

The room was extravagant. I knew it wasn't a fully equipped dungeon, however it had a plethora of hooks, cuffs, and furniture for bondage or play. I walked over to the diner couch and sat down. I got out my water bottle and started drinking. I was getting nervous and dry.

The next group of people who entered were just as friendly as the first ones I met. I started being introduced to important names and figures that I would be seeing frequently once I was able to attend the local dungeon after my 21st birthday. I had met up with my contact and continued talking to people. As the minutes continued passing I felt myself getting more nervous and excited.

The class begun with a knot review for the riggers. It was a fast overview on rope in general. This class was going to focus on partial suspensions which can be described as lifting the body while still maintaining contact with the ground. I learned that the two most important things to watch out for with safety is joints and pinched nerves. There are different types of rope including hemp or natural rope nd synthetic. Natural fiber rope has more tooth in it which allows it to hold better without multiple loops. There were also a plethora of rings and carabiners showed to us that can be used in play.

After the brief view on knots, the time came for us to be partnered with a Rope Top. If I wasn't already nervous, I suddenly became extremely nervous. Would I be able to do this? Will my Top be willing to accommodate me? Will I enjoy this? I had talked to my Top towards the beginning of the night. I told him that I had zero rope experience, suspension or otherwise. I told him that I would let him know right away what I would need. I am pretty good at adapting things. I've been living with crutches for the past 20 years. Everyday has a different challenge that needs accommodations.

The fun had begun with a hand tie. We mistakenly had it done while I was in the wrong position. I have learned that I need to know what the full goal of the suspension is so I can fully think through what steps I need to take to feel secure and feel safe. I kneeled down on the ground and proceeded to have my hands tied together. It was the weirdest sensation I ever experienced. I've held rope before. What was weird was that the means of balancing and getting myself around was gone. If I lost balance I was going down.

Another thing I noticed with rope, more specifically with partial suspensions was the fact that you need to be strong and very flexible. I found it difficult to sustain positions for a long period of time. Of course I have worked out before and have stretched, however it was not to this intensity or extent.

We switched sides of the room to experience a different type of rig. The next position had me laying down and another had me hogtied. The very last suspension that we learned was my favorite. It involved a chest harness where the majority of my weight was off of my legs. This allowed me to get rid of my crutches and really feel that moment of freedom. My hands were then tied off above my head.

The demonstration portion of the night ended and we once again took a short break. I was able to rehydrate and use the restroom before the play portion of the night commenced. During free play I watched an instructor give instructions on how to do a certain type of chest tie. Afterwards I played with a different Rope Top. It was during this play session where I was fully suspended with legs completely off the ground swinging on my belly.

This was the most amazing feeling I have ever experienced. The only time I am truly free to not worry about balancing or using my crutches is when I go swimming in a pool. Suspension gave me a weird feeling of freedom even though I was tied and bound.

That is my story of my rope weekend. I am extremely excited to try it again. I really want to explore my own limits and boundaries:

To My Future Rope Top:

  • Full suspensions work the best because the harness allows me to not have worry about balancing with my crutches.
  • Don't hesitate to ask me what physically works best for me
  • Let me know what the full image or goal you have in mind so I can assist you in executing it

Things I Have Learned for Next Time:

  • I am not big on positions where I am laying down on my back tied up
  • Full suspension are awesome
  • Bring a blanket or mat for sitting

The tightest bonds allows the furthest flight. For it is in slavery where one finds true freedom.

Cheers!
