My Masochism is not *YOUR* Masochism

I originally started this post due to a conversation I had with a male submissive down at The Society in early June. Now as you can see... it is WAY past June....However, the topic has come up once again so I thought I would add my thoughts about masochism.

I was asked whether I thought this specific submissive took *a lot* of pain. Or if he took as much as I could. I know that we live in a world of constant competition. However, I don't think there's a need to compare people's pleasures. In addition, I was recently told that I was not masochistic enough.

So this leads me to Question #1...
What is Masochism?
According to Merriam-Webster:

As you can see from above there are subtleties in the definition for masochism.

Question #2: When was it ever okay for people to tell self-identifed masochists that they are not a masochist?

As I am discovering in the lifestyle, people often preach about what constitutes a *true* Dom/sub/slave M.s dynamic..etc. Many people have their own subjective views on what constitutes a masochist. In my person opinion, I think people confuse masochist with pain slut. If a person derives pleasure (whether sexual or not) from pain, then they are a masochist. End of story. The range of masochistic bottoms is very wide and heavily individualized. Even within an individual's pain preference, there is a varying spectrum of what they like and how they can receive and process  the pain. <maybe I should do a whole separate post on pain...hmm>

Without bashing this point over peoples' heads any further I leave you with one more thought.

My Masochism is MY masochism. Get your own!

Cheers!
